Leave This Town

Well the news hit me like a hammer
Blew off the top of my head
I went for a walk around the block
Wound up at your door instead
With a ballpoint pen and paperTo try and write it all down
But nothing I say makes much sense
I think I’m going to leave this town

I think I’m going to leave this town in a minute
Everything here, all the people in it
It’s a rat race
I’m never going to win it
I think I’m going to leave this town

Well the highway musta quit calling
‘Cuz I ain’t heard it in years
Angels wait by the side of the road
The Devil whispers in my ear

And he says he’s keeping my secret
But talk sure do get around
I got trouble down deep
I can’t sleep
I think I’m going to leave this town

I think I’m going to leave this town in a hurry
I’ll be all right, baby don’t you worry
Somewhere between Memphis and Missouri
I think I’m going to leave this town

These shoes that I’ve been wearing
Wearing for a long long while
They ain’t my size, ain’t my color
Sure as hell ain’t my style
Somehow I got to keep running
While others just stand around
You know you find what’s true
Down on the avenue

I think I’m going to leave this town
